Oh, you will probably get lots of answeres. Me, I just like to get the cheapest one out there, not too heavy (so I can lift it) - I like a steam iron that gets REALLY HOT! May that's why I burn them out so fast - but the expensive ones have lasted as long as the cheap - so I go cheapest price.

After having two Rowentas bite the dust in less than a year I recently bought a $20 Black and Decker and I love it! blessings, marlene

I currently am using a Conair One Touch Steam Iron. I like the fact that it has an automatic shut-off but it also has a crafting over-ride so that you can make it stay on all of the time. I'm looking into buying a non-steam iron, however.

I love my Rowenta Pro! It is auto shutoff but heats up very quickly and has an extra burst of steam. You can also use a no steam function.

I have a philips steam iron , with extra steam if I need it. It heats quickly but is quite heavy......

I have a Rowenta steam iron, it also has a burst of steam, but like you I don't like the fact that it has auto shut-off. It also re heats very slowly.

Because it has been so long since buying an iron, I think I will say, out of contrary-ness, a sad iron.(does anyone still know what THAT is?)

Well, I've got no idea what a sad iron is...(above)....and I have heard Rowentas are good, but I still just have my old cheapie! I guess it is better than heating up a cast iron one in the embers, cleaning it off and ironing!! (Boy oh boy, our foremothers had it rough!)

Oliso with the raise up and down feature so do not have the sole plate sit on the board and scorch anything important. Thanks for the giveaway. (Oh! mostly use a Black & Decker but do not like that it doesn't have a switch on/off - have to plug/unplug from outlet - and after 30 minutes it shuts off automatically.)

I love the Shark Professional iron. Nice and hot, good steam, heavy enough to press the fabric. It does shut off automatically (I think almost all irons do now and it's a good thing or mine would be on 24 hours a day) but heats up quickly. I have one at home and 3 in my classroom. Love it!

oh I am so glad to get these ideas, I hate my iron.

I like a good light but hot and steamy iron. I have a Rowenta and I'm very happy with it...so far.

I have an Oreck and I like it except for the fact that the steam holes are too big. So here is my criteria:
Lots of steam, small holes, no dripping, steam shut off.

Hope that's helpful!
