Fish...is it really brain food?

According to many studies....

it is...

A protein source associated with a great brain boost is fish -- rich in omega 3 fatty acids, these fatty acids have some amazing benefits...

Several websites listed the following as benefits too.

  • *help maintain cardiovascular health by playing a role in the regulation of blood clotting and vessel constriction;
  • *are important for prenatal and postnatal neurological development;
  • *may reduce tissue inflammation and alleviate the symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis;
  • *may play a beneficial role in cardiac arrhythmia (irregular heartbeat), reducing depression and halting mental decline in older people.

  • The omega-3s found in fish (EPA and DHA) appear to provide the greatest health benefits. Fish that are high in omega-3s, low in environmental contaminants and eco-friendly include:
      • *wild salmon from Alaska (fresh, frozen and canned),
      • *Arctic char,
      • *Atlantic mackerel,
      • *sardines,
      • *sablefish,
      • *anchovies
      • *farmed oysters
      • *farmed rainbow trout and
      • *albacore tuna from the U.S. and Canada.
    Choose fish that are good for you and the ocean. At the Environmental Defense Fund website  they suggest to choose fish that are good for you and the ocean.  You can go to their website to check out the complete list of fish that has been eco-rated . There you will find  more about contaminants such as Mercury and PCBs and get help on what to look for when buying fish.

    I've never been much of a fish eater, but I do love salmon and my hubby fixes it deliciously.

    I'm a Pisces and I don't eat my own kind! I did take the stairs several times and went rollerblading tonight :)

    Hugs,

    Loved reading that and I need all of it - and hate the taste of fish with a passion. I did buy the Omega 3 capsules, but I don't have any idea if it delivers the same benefits. It's been so cold and damp, I haven't been walking. I keep hoping and hoping there will be sunshine and at least 55!

    I know what you mean about the grandchildren visiting. My 20 year old Ryan is here with his dad this weekend. Ryan requested my Cheddar Chicken Spaghetti with Rotel, and so it shall be...Not at thing fishy about it.

    Love the gal fish taking the water and the colored stones. LOL

    You crack me up, Annie! Great post. I love salmon but the only fish I had ths week was from the local chippy so it came in batter ... with chips ... and mushy peas! So, probably NOT very good for me! Promising myself next week will be healthier :)

    Somehow I missed your comment back in February on my blog. Thanks for leaving encouragement.

    I LOVE fish (steak fish) I could eat it almost every night. My fave is Steele Head Trout that my local grocer has on a regular basis. I just brush it with a little EVOO, fresh ground pepper and Kosher salt, bake in oven for 13min on 425. PERFECT! Hoping I have leftovers (rare) to put it on top of my salad for lunch. I use to be a salmon lover but now that I have had the SH Trout, the Salmon seems to oily.

    You can do it, this week will be the best one yet!
