"Time flies like an arrow..." (and a giveaway)

*please read right below this picture for info on the giveaway

Yeah, "ol" Groucho Marx (1890-1977).  Do any of you readers remember his show called "You Bet Your Life"?  There was a secret word and when guests said that word...the got $100 (which wasn't peanuts in those days... lol).  Do you remember how the secret word was revealed?  If you can guess, your name will be put into a drawing to win FIVE fat quarters!  ("contest" closed Sunday September 28th.  Winner revealed on Monday September 29th).

                                       ======= ============ ================ =======

Okay...so yeah, I'm avoiding some issues - namely, that I haven't been around for awhile, like quite a few months.  Uh, Oh...that's bad.  Maybe not as bad as running a red light or not turning a final term paper.  But, still I feel kinda bad that I go in and out again...like MA-Finnigan.

So no promises...no projects that I say I will finish by a certain date...no sticking my neck (or my tongue) out on the chopping block, due to lack of discipline, procrastination, or overbooking myself with many (diverse) projects.  I will confess that I do have a disease...although not an excuse, it could be a reason.  I might've mentioned this before,  I have a solid case of C.A.D.  This would be described as Craft Attention Deficit.   I have a super hard time keeping myself from starting new projects...and in lots of different areas of the Craft World...all at the same time.

With that great advice, I will try not to distract from the now.  =P

How do you keep focused on current projects?  How do you feel about having several (or a million?? lol) projects going with no real completion date in mind?  Or do you only start ONE project at a time and finish before you start another one?  Do you have quite a few DIFFERENT crafts that your hands dabble in? Or do you kinda stick with one or two?

Take care!

cyber hugZ,
annie

I try not to have more than 2 projects in progress. I have a lot in my mind that I want to cast on, but I know from past experience that more than 2 causes stress and panic. I think I knit faster when I am desperate to start something else, so I finish more items that way.

First, welcome back! Second, so many projects I have to keep a list to remember them all.

I was just thinking of you yesterday - hoping all was well. I know you do a lot of family time thru the Summer as well. I do a lot of projects - all in different stages - keep work lists to stay on track - and mostly I DONT STRESS. I want it all to be just fun.

From wikipedia:
the "secret word", a common word revealed to the audience at the show's outset. If a contestant said the word, a toy duck resembling Groucho—with eyeglasses and a mustache—descended from the ceiling to bring a $100 bill. A cartoon of a duck with a cigar was also used in the opening title sequence

Welcome back! I remember the duck! LOL I always have numerous projects going~ cuts down on boredom! ;-) I keep each in a 12 x 12 plastic bin made for storing scrapbooking papers... the blocks fit perfectly as well as the in-progress pieces. When I get tired of one, I change bins. They are each long term projects, but everything is together for the golden moment when I finish it. Have a happy day!

Yep, I remember watching that show. A crazy looking duck would descend from overhead holding a card with the magic word on it. I have FOF disease - fear of finishing, so there are lots of UFOs stacked up around my house. Thanks for the chance to win.

I really have way too many projects going - hard to concentrate and finish anything. One of many flaws. I am (unfortunately) old enough to remember the duck from above with the secret word. Thanks for your contest.

Didn't the secret word descend from the sky, courtesy of some crazy bird (a duck, maybe?) that was lowered on a string? All very low tech, but funny.

We were watching the Marx Brothers this morning, and they are still laugh-out-loud funny at our house.

First of all, when the secret word was said, a rubber duck made up to look like Groucho Marx would descend from the ceiling carrying the $100! I actually like PeeWee Herman's version, where everyone screamed when the secret word was said…

And you know me - I'm a list maker! I decide what I need to do each week, then work the list. Sometimes i have to veer off-list, but at least it keeps me from wandering around wondering what I should be working on…. Since quilting became my job as well as my hobby, I don't have time to do much else, but occasionally I will make dresses for my grandgirls or do some crocheting or knitting!

Well I might not be old enough to remember the first go round, but we did watch A LOT of old shows (sorry I don't mean anything by that!! LOL) when I stayed at my Aunt's house over the summers! I remember the TERRIFYING 'duck' that was not a duck at all! But We watched all the old shows! I dream of Jennie, Bewitched, Father knows best!!

I definitely remember the show and the goofy word bird! He was a very funny man. I handle the CAD by not caring how many projects are going at once. Eventually, they all get finished, and if they didn't, so what? I enjoyed doing what I did while I did it, and someone sometime will get the pieces and finish. =) I've finished several for my best friend who died last year, and someone will finish mine and enjoy that process. So I do what I want and rarely resist the start urge. =) Welcome back, stay as long as you like, come and go as the spirit moves you. =) dezertsuz at gmail

I've thought about you from time to time over the past months and wondered what you've been up to. I'm really glad to see you back and hope you will post ever so often.

I keep lists. I always have. I have one master list with all the eventual projects-ones that I have fabric/patterns for plus ones that I want to design and also the precuts or bundles that I've bought and need to make plans for.

Then I have a current list, in order of importance. That keeps me from straying until I get most or all of them completed. Once that is done, I go back to the master list and pick the next batch of current list items.

Once in a while unplanned things get added to the list, if I decide to join or host a swap or I get a special request, but overall this method is helping me get some of my own projects done.

I always have more projects than I can deal with. They all seem to get done eventually, even if that is years later. You gotta go with the flow. As I recall, the secret word was lowered on a string with a duck holding the card it was printed on.
And it is always nice to see you here, whenever you can drop in.

I remember that show. When the guest said the secret word, a funny looking duck would drop down with the secret word written on a sign.
I try to not allow a lot of UFOs and WIPs to accumulate because they stress me. This year my goal is to finish all I have accumulated so I can start out with a fresh batch of new UFOs and WIPs next year. Yeah. We'll see how that goal goes. Lol.
Happy to see you back, dear. I missed you.
