children's book review - Charlie The Caterpillar

I thought it might be a good idea to do some picture-book reviews for those of you who like to read them. I love picture books and reading them to grandchildren (or other little ones)is one of my favorite things to do.

Charlie The Caterpillar

is written by the late (1933-2009)Dom DeLuise, one of America's best-loved comedians. Some of you may remember him as an actor (Blazing Saddles, Cannonball Run, Smokey and the Bandit, to name a few), or the voice in children's cartoons such as American Tail or All Dogs Go To Heaven). He also was a great chef and wrote cook books.

This is a fun book with great illustrations (Christopher Santoro, illustrator)
The story begins as Charlie is born and he is "glad to be alive". But soon he finds, as he tries to play and make friends with others.........that others don't like how he looks and tell him he is ugly. He starts to believe them. One day he changes and grows beautiful wings..........with this change he also learns some important lessons.
